- March 10, 2009, Rouen, the City of Impressionism (June-September 2010)
The role played by Rouen in art history at the end of the XIXth century is considerable. If the city has not stopped attracting the artists since the Renaissance, the fascination it exercises reaches its climax in the impressionistic period, while the prestige of its industrial development, its spectacular site and its intact architectural heritage mingle.
The exhibition “Rouen, the City of Impressionism” will gather a hundred major paintings by Monet, Gauguin, Pissaro, Sisley and others, on a subject which has never been addressed before, one of the last great topics of the history of Impressionism remaining to be discovered.
